I have a 1996 2500HD 5.9 V8 that i would like to switch over to a cummins. It is a 5 speed. I was wondering if the trans would bolt up to a 12 valve 5.9 cummins? I know it has the 241HD Transfer Case.
I'd look into, if your set on swapping in a diesel, a 4bt Cummins. They're cheaper to acquire, weigh less, easier time fitting the thing in the engine bay, it's all mechanical (less wiring to swap), and with a few tweaks, can put out some good power. Just my

1) He's talking about a 12 valve, mechanical injection.
2) A 12 valve (or any 6bt) will drop right in on the stock v8 motor mounts.
3) Where are you seeing cheap 4bt's? I have always found 5.9's to be cheaper. Just out of curiosity...

They can put out some power but I'm looking for a whole lot more power! I will probably just buy a donor truck and take what i need off of it and part ouot whats left over.

That's the best way to do it! Get one with an NV5600! You won't regret it.
EDIT: Never mind they didn't come with 6 speeds till the 24v period. So go NV4500
