Default HELP with my 1998 Dodge Ram 1500

I have a 5.9L V8 Dodge Ram 1500. The code P0301 popped up on my OBD2 reader. I went and bought new spark plugs and wires. Yet the code is still coming up. What do I do?

did you do the cap and rotor? if not, that's probly the next place to go. they are cheap enough and fairly easy to replace.

You erased the code first right?

You could also throw in a compression test on that particular cylinder.
If you replace the cap/rotor and still get the code. Check the voltage on the injector and make sure it isn't clogged. This'll usually throw an injector code but not always, so check it out.

Look for broken vacuum lines or possible leaks, also, were the plugs covered in oil or carbon when you changed them?? That would point at an intake plenum problem..

update, cap and rotor replaced, replaced two vacuum lines, cleaned the throttle body, checked the distributor, erased the code, now random misfire and cylinder 1 misfire are popping up... i have 4 days to re-smog the truck... so confused even had a guy come look at the truck he couldn't find out what was going on either because the truck is running fine, no sputter or misfire.

Check your plug wire routing, there is a TSB in the faq section for proper routing.
