Default Cam swap or 1.7 roller rockers

Ok, so I am at a point where I can upgrade the stock cam in my 360. The intake is off, timing cover, and water pump also. I can either swap in a different cam of change out the stamped rockers for Harland Sharp 1.7's.

Just looking for advice from those that have built the engines there trucks, or just have more knowledge in the area.

I am keeping the stock kegger and prefer to keep the stock programming on the stock pcm. Although I do have the SuperChips tuner.

Current mods include: Pace Setter shorties, SuperChips 3815, Magnaflow cat-back (single system), Holley 52mm throttle body.

I am leaning more towards the 1.7 roller rockers since I plan to keep the stock kegger, and don't plan on having the pcm reprogrammed.

But on the other hand is there a possiblity of changing the cam and keeping the stock pcm and kegger intake?

Or is either idea a waste?

HS Rockers would probably be the best band for the buck. Are you replacing the plenum gasket as well?

Incomplete input as the above posters have not changed their cam out on one of these dodgessssss.

Get a R/T cam, as an example. There are cams out there that would fit your needs. Build off the cam for even more potential (i.e., rockers, heads, SCT,etc.). There are cams that are PCM friendly, no need to change.

Search for my thread for reference. There aren't many people here that have swapped out a cam on these engines....successfully.

What computer are you using Wh1t3? The "what cam" question may have been the very first thing to pop out of my mouth when I signed up here. General forum and KRC dude consensus at the time was that without a B&G flash I'd never be happy with the tune on any more aggressive cams, including the various mild RT cams. I have to get through local sniffer emissions testing and wouldn't want it fouling out all the time anyways. What cams have you gotten the impression might fit in with an OBD1 setup and still not run pig rich. I think my engine is a good candidate since it has pretty low miles on it at this point. Here we go again.

the 1.7rr's have worked out well for me.. that said, they are, by definition, to get higher lift and slightly longer duration instead of going through the pains of installing a cam...

cam and heads are where it all begins.. build with an end goal in mind.. don't just toss parts at it..

dang near any cam change will require or benefit from new valve springs..

low end torque- go with a sausage cam... you can get by with factory gears and intake with it.. lowering the torque converters launch can help.. drop to 1400~1600rpm...

mid-range- go with a cam slightly higher in curve.. a 206 or so.. you'll appreciate gears and a torque converter to bring it all together and get it off the ground quicker..

high range- 210.. don't even consider it without gears to help launch.. upper end? whoa... low end- not good..

cams are where the black magic of building engines originates...

Oh yes! The plenum is the second reason I have my truck in pieces.

As far as the SCT tuner, how is it different from the SuperChips? Does SCT create a program specific to the mods?

You can get custom tunes for your mods, but, they aren't necessary until you make some pretty significant changes to your truck. (cam beyond what the computer can figure out, bigger valve heads, intake, etc.) 365.00 from Hemifever.

SCT is pretty much considered THE best tuner for our trucks.

So the SCT does the same as SuperChips, but SCT just has better programming??
