Default seals/spacer behind axel??? w/pic

I am trying to figure out why my driver side axel keeps snapping...and it seems there should be some sort of a spacer/seal that goes behind it and the axel tube. cause when i install it there is some space behing it and it keeps pulling itself into the tube breaking the u joint hoops.

There is a dust seal/cover that goes in the tube. I have seen front diffs both with and without it. But it will not cause you to snap an axle like that. My front diff does not have the covers. Most likely the cause is a bad or weak u-joint or large tires.

+1, That is just a dust seal. As far as I know, the axle should not go in or out if the hub bearing is torqued correctly.

The large tires and your 408 are what's causing them to snap

thats what i thought but everytime it breaks it breaks the back side of the hoop and is not like the snap occured on forward mometum...it just seems odd. I could possibly have bent my whole axel houseing when i did all the damage the first time

Once installed, there shouldn't be ANY lateral play in the axle. The outer stub should hold everything in place. If there is movement there, something is definitely wrong. If the u-joint pivot point, and the balljoint pivot point, are not DIRECTLY in line, yeah, things are gonna bust.

Something else to check...... is make sure the passenger side inner axle isn't seized up in the tube...... if that were the case, as soon as you put it in 4wd, it would be trying to spin the drivers side twice as fast...... and that will also bust stuff up right quick.
