Well I am now the proud owner of a 1995 Dodge RAM 1500. I drove it down to Maryland for Easter to see the family (and my brother who is a mechanic)

Couple things he noticed ..

1.) Tires are in great shape, they only have like 10K miles on them.

2.) All my fluids were low (except Transmission Fluid, which I will get to) so the "mechanic" that I was told checked this car out before I bought it really sucked.

3.) The transmission fluid was overfilled because it seems there is fluid leaking from around the transfer case.

4.) There is some bearing making a noise near the alternator, not sure if it is the alternator or the the tension bearing, but something is making a noise.

5.) The A/C can't actually work because they replaced the belt with one that does not go over the A/C Compressor, so I was basically sold a truck "with A/c" that does not have A/C. I am thinking about going back to the dealership about this issue, not sure though as of course it was sold "as-is"

Either the A/C system is empty, and didn't work, or, the compressor has an issue, and the PO bypassed it...... probably a good idea to figger out which it is.

Congrats on the new truck.

Go back to the dealer and show them the problem. They may or may not help you out. If they don't, oh well, you didn't lose anything by asking. If they do, then you''' be glad you asked

Yeah ive heard mor from late 90's on. 97, 98, etc. Seems to be more prominent. Either way im gonna still get a dash cover to block the sunlight. In alaska the middle of summers hav sun from 6am to..3am. its nuts. winter however in the shortest day is like 5 hrs of daylight lol.

How much did you pay for it?? I'm guessing you paid quite a bit to expect a 17 year old used truck to have no problems to work out?... Thats really what it boils down to though...Its honestly only designed for an average lifespan of 10 years... even the stereotypical "old lady's car" with ridiculously low miles and garage kept will have problems from age and things drying up or leaking... you cant expect miracles...thats all I'm trying to say...
Honestly if it really is low mileage you can expect to see a few problems arise from using it quite a bit more than its seen.
