My driveshaft departed from the truck
Driving down the highway last friday (three days after i got my truck back from getting the transmission done) doin about 80mph, then BAM! I hear the wonderful sound of a driveshaft beating the **** out of the underside of my truck, so i get over to the shoulder as quick as i can, sure enough my driveshaft was missing. It was laying in the grass about 100 feet back from where i stopped.
The U-joint was still in the driveshaft, but the end caps were missing that went in the pinion yoke, the bolts for the u-joint clamps were broken off inside the yoke, and the yoke itself was trashed.
Is there any special consideration i should take or procedure i should follow when removing the pinion yoke?

I'd be going back to the place that did your tranny and having them fix it. They either left the bolts loose and the u-joint beat the hell out of the straps which snapped the bolts. Or else they over torqued the bolts.
Either way it was their screw up so they should be doing the fixing.

That would be fine and dandy except i put the trans in by myself with a friend.
Ive already got a driveshaft in the works, i just need to know about taking the pinion yoke out. Do i need to pull the spiders out and everything or can i just undo the nut on the yoke and pull it out without cracking the rearend open?
