Shavings or goo on the magnet? If shavings, then you definitley need a rebuild.

If you buy a used one, the chances that it will need less than a rebuild are slim. If you want to do this one time only, a Viper level 2 from PATC would be the oprimum choice - if you can afford it.

Do you know a reputable trans shop? If so, get them to quote with upgrades such as BW gov solenoid, high temp frictions, and sure cure trans kit for VB. May cost $1000 to $1200 or so, depending on the market in our area.

If you have not done so, download the service manual in the FAQ/DIY section and read the transmission section AND read MonteC's Transmission thread in the DIY section. Good info.

now that its warmer out i'm experiencing the shudder more often and have now figured out that its coming from the rearend. It only does it from a stop or very low speed while turning, turning only. And is also accompanied by a very low pitch groan or whine, also while turning. I realize i do still have trans probs since it has no park now, but.... ugh, other problems too

Sounds like you have an LSD rear, without the friction modifier in the fluid.

So did you figure out the problem. I have the same on mine. Rolls in park. I was told to either adjust the linkage or replace the pawl.
