Default Tips for Cat Removal..

Im puttin my new magnaflow cat on and i had to cut the old one out. So there is now a piece of tubing about a foot long left in the muffler flange. How can I get it out? It seems really tight where the clamp was i cant even get it to budge. Its not welded.Any suggestions?

heating the muffler flange with a plumbers propane torch might break it loose.

is there a pinched groove in both the pipe and the muffler flange? if so it'll be harder to get out. you might have to cut the inner pipe out with an air chisel.

air chisel, running longways down the inner pipe.

try heat first.

ok i got it broken loose to wear i can turn it to the sides and itll move 1/4 or so either way. I noticed there's a slot on the muffler flange on top and the old cat had a tab almost like a bolt that slid into the slot. This is what i think is preventing me from turning any further either way and possible pulling it out.Is this a bolt? I cant get my head up there really to see.

Nope, no gaskets there. I don't think its a bolt there either..... (where the pipes come together.) but, consider how long they have had to rust themselves together...... keep working at it, it should eventually come out. eventually......

ok, there is something on top though, the muffler flange has about 1/4 wide slot about 1/2 long on it and there is some raised tab on the old cat pipe that was slid into the slot. I bent the corner of the slots up to get out of the way of the tab thing but still nothing. Ill keep trying though. Here's another thought, the flange is about 6 inches long, and the clamp was pressed about halfway. Can I cut where the clamp was and just slip the cat in the 3 inches and clamp down or do you think it would leak?
