Default 2001 Ram with no power

Bought my first ram the other day, already love it. The guy I bought it from said the Govenor pressure sensor/solenoid needed to be replaced and that's the reason why it wont shift. I found a right up on here on how to replace it. Just wondering if that's the issue? it crawls when I take off unless I start in 1st and shift to 2nd then drive. Also, while on the highway, it wouldn't downshift to speed up. Any suggestions and tips are greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the trans is in limp mode.... so, it starts off in second gear... thus, very sluggish.... is the CEL on??

I haven't tired starting off in second. It's sluggish when I take off in drive. Otherwise fine if I take off in first then shift to second then to drive. And not exactly sure what you mean by CEL?

pull the codes and post them

to get the codes, cycle your key in the ignition 3 times quickly from off to on and leave it on the 3rd time, but do not start it. the error codes will display on your odometer display. it will say done when it is done displaying all of the codes.

write them down and post them up here and we can tell you what the codes mean and hopefully give you a better idea of whats wrong with it.

Thank you so much. I got the truck parked else where so it'll take me some time to get to it, get the codes and post them. Thanks so much for the help already.

btw when we do figure out whats wrong with it and you get it fixed, you will either need to buy a code reader (cost anywhere from $50-$2000 depending on brand/how fancy it is...mine was $70), or borrow one from a parts store (most good auto parts stores will let you borrow one) to clear the codes out of the computer.

P0300
P0304
P1756
P0306

Ok, just figured out that the 300's are misfires. 0304 and 0306 are cylinder 4 and 6 misfiring. And the 0300 is a random misfire? What the hell is a random misfire?
