First time I started with zero lash, and then went on from there to one turn. I then spent about a month testing different lash setting's and found 1/2 turn was best for my motor/combo.

Merc,
I'll set all mine at 1/2 a turn and then go from there. It is going to be a day or two before I get a chance to work on the engine anyhow. Have gotten tied up with honeydoo junk. But we all know you got to keep momma happy or your life won't be worth anything.

Well not a ton has gone on with the engine since I last posted. I have not been feeling well after seeing the doctor and he gave me a shot in my leg to try and help with the pain. Instead it has caused me more pain to the point where I wasn't able to walk and working on the engine was the last thing on my mind.

So today I was feeling better and went out to the garage and did some work.
I had parked the Jeep in the garage 3 weeks ago but had never gotten it past that point. So today I took the tires off and got it on jack stands. Have them set low to make it easier to pull the engine. Even with it set on the lowest notch on the jack stands I still have room under it to work.

Got a nice mess behind the Jeep. I need a larger garage or a storage shed to put some of this stuff.

So here is what my Honey Dew list was................the wife got a new bike and I needed to take off all the parts and accessories from her old bike. This is a 2011 CVO SoftTail w/110ci engine. She is enjoying her new bike and rode it to work the past 3 days.

At least it's progress to report.

-- from other thread --

Again thanks whole heartedly for your service. I'm an AF brat and also Gpa was Marines. Goal next year is to get involved with Wheeling for the Wounded. I'd think something similar up in your neck facilitates one? There is one here that runs the Rubicon. No matter what level of support I will be involved, whether carrying a Vet or hauling support gear for the run. I have room for their "support wheels" if you get my drift. No you can just run it yourself....once you complete this build.

Yes progress is progress and right now for me any is good.

I WANT to run the Rubicon and keep saying I am going to get down there and then something comes up to make me not able to go.

Well yesterday was a productive day for me. I worked on the Jeep for about 4 hours and got the front bumper & winch removed.

Then I removed all the bolts and disconnected the wiring on the front cowl. Plus I found out I had bumped a tree or rock or some other hard thing right above my left headlight. It was hard enough to put a small dent there & break the headlight bucket but not hard enough to break the headlight.................
Go figure???

I left the radiator mounted to the cowl as it was just easier. One of the last things I had done to try and cool the 5.2 in my Jeep was to get a aluminum radiator. I built the shroud to mount the Spal fan onto which is controlled by a Spal fan controller that lets me turn it on at 50% speed first @ a preset temp and then goes to 100% speed @ another preset temp. It works great and the radiator was keeping the temp down. The only problem was that because of the overheating issues the fan ran all the time. So I ended up catching the wiring on fire and melting about 5' of harness for the controller. Real strange thing was that the fuse didn't pop and that is where the dang nab fire started at.

Between the radiator and grill I have two B&M coolers mounted. One for the tranny and the other for the power steering.

So here it sits now just have to start disconnecting stuff and label it as I go. Once I get everything disconnected I'm going to yank this engine then pull the tranny and transfer case together. The darn t-case weighs more than the tranny I think.

About ready to head out there and put in a few hours today.

Where did you get your brackets for the compressor?

It's an early Kilby pice that he unfortunately doesn't sell anymore. I've tried.
