Cloyes makes good stuff. That should get you within a degree or so.

Christmas came a day early to my house today. Brown Santa dropped a bunch of boxes off on my front steps for me to get to open and then play with my new toys.

First on the list was a Moroso 19" Timing Degree Wheel. I have a Summit 11" wheel but for us OLD farts this one is a lot better.

Next is a digital dial indicator for a JUST BECASUE. It wasn't very expensive and I figured I'd give it a try and see how I liked it.

Next was a 12" caliper for measuring the length check push rods. They will be 6.8" or better so my 6" calipers wouldn't work so I got these.

Then a Push Rod Length Checker that should really be called a Rocker Arm/Push Rod Geometry Checker. Just a side note here. Many items that fit/work with a small block Chevy will also work on our engines. And I have 3/8" studs for my rocker arms.

Timing Chain tensioner was also needed. Not a 100% required item but even thought our stock engines don't have one doesn't mean it isn't a good idea to add when rebuilding or changing your cam.
It is also made by Cloyes just like my new timing chain.

Cam Checking Fixture used when doing the cam degreeing process.

New Cloyes timing chain with 9* of adjustment on the bottom gear.

Valve Spring Compressor for changing the heavy springs for tester springs when doing the push rod length.

Valve Holder for changing out the heavy springs. Used to pressurize the cylinders so the valves don't fall into the cylinder.

Block Bridge for holding the Dial Indicator when degreeing the cam.

I always enjoy getting new tools to play with and while I don't rebuild engines every day all these tools will be helpful as I rebuild this stroker engine.

I've been watching a bunch of different videos on how to degree a cam and think I'm ready to try this now. It's interesting to see the different ways that people attack the same thing.

Here is my cam card.

And here is a really well detailed write-up on how to install & degree a cam from Crane Cams.

Started getting stuff ready for the cam install and then the heads. The adjustable push rods I ordered won't be here until Monday 4 Jan 21 so I can either work on other stuff or do the cam and get the heads installed and then wait..... I'm not good at waiting.....

So to start I dug out the roller rockers that had been sitting in a open box in the garage so they looked NASTY.. I'd bought a 5 gallon can of carb cleaner a while back so I opened it up and dipped the rockers in the can a few times to rinse the crud off. Then I sprayed them down with some brake clean and wiped them down dry. Then I placed them into this really expensive jug I got so I can soak them in oil.

Those old coffee can make such great jugs for doing this kind of stuff.

Then filled it up with oil and then put the lid on so it won't get dirty.

Then I got out the new hydraulic roller lifters and dropped them into the other recycled coffee can.

I forgot to take a pic of oil on the lifters but you all get the idea.

Thanks. I hope to have it running by summer. I still have a lot of stuff to do to the Jeep.

Got more done yesterday but none of it was exciting.

I worked on all the parts & fasteners that I'd put in the carb cleaner the day before. So I pulled them back out and wiped them down. So here is the stuff clean.

And then the next batch of parts and fasteners ready to get soaked again.

The rocker arm lock nuts & lifter straps nice and clean.

All the nice clean bolts.

Then for a little inspiration I got my intake out just to look at a few things. Now I don't know about anyone else but that is PURE SEXYNESS.............

I can't wait to get this installed and here that engine purrrr

Then with the air cleaner installed.

Dang Nab that just looks sooooo great.

The intake F&B uses for this is a carbureted intake that they have added the fuel injector bungs to.

Hopefully I'll get the cam installed today.

Add anymore stuff to that manifold and you’ll need a crane to get on the engine
