Default gas tank problem

Hey guys, so yesterday at fill up when the pump clicked off there were some noises being made and i knew something was wrong under there, anyway after about 3-4 seconds a bunch of gas spilled out from the passenger side of the gas tank onto the ground. The leak stopped however, and i was shaking my truck and nothing was coming out. i couldnt see where the leak was because the metal guard on the side. I drove it home and noticed a gas smell quite strong when i got out, but couldnt see any gas dripping. On a side note i am planning on taking the bed off this weekend to pull the pump sender because the fuel gauge has been going crazy. Has anyone experienced this problem?

The tank is plastic... so, have a look at it while its out. Should be pretty obvious where the gas is coming from. Probably sloshing right out the seal for the pump anyway.....

Yeah, shield is thin steel. Just protects the side of the tank from crap the drive shaft might throw. (but, not from the drive shaft itself, should it decide to let go.....) If gas is running out the top somewhere, that's where it would show up at.

If it's toward the back..... also check where the pin that holds the shield in place pokes into the tank..... ('bout half way down the side of the tank, well toward the back.)

Okay im going to go look at it right now. Another question though, i just phoned my parts dealer in town (napa) and they want 400$ for the pump assembly! If my sender is going bad from what I have read i have to replace the whole thing?

Yeah, 400 is way over the top. Unless you are in Canada.... or elsewhere outside the US. Should be between 2 and 3 hundred. Go with Delphi, or Denso... stay away from airtex.

Yes i am in canada, its unfortunate. I will try rock auto. Also, i started my truck and drove it back and forth, got out and could smell gas. I looked everywhere and its not dripping. I cant find the leak!
