Valve Timing Questions
You should be fine with the stock cam's specs. No trensioner should be necessary with the JP chain. Just be sure you don't force the gear on the crank snout, test fit the gears without the chain first, sand it out a bit if necessary, and do the best you can to remove an even amount of material all the way around. They make a cloth emory sand paper on a thin ribbon roll in the paint sections of parts stores that works great.

Hijacking here but I was wondering if anyone has done this chain set:

Not only are there less expensive alternatives, THAT ONE is still a Morse chain. Technically, Morse Chains are stronger. More small pieces, kind of laminating effect. But they wear faster as well, allowing for slack. As the cam is not a heavy load to turn, Morse is not the best alternative. Additiaonlly, Morse chains were origianlly designed for lower rpm applications.

I also ordered a new water pump from GMB and a 180° thermostat. Are these water pumps any good? I have an efan conversion on my truck already so bearing stress shouldn't be an issue.
180° t stats typically work on these engine without throwing a CEL, but not always. You'll have to try it and see. Definitely don't bother with colder. Years ago Stant made a really good stat called a superstat, I don't know if they are still held in high regard.
Actually I just bought the 180° Stant Superstat from Advance Auto Parts on Saturday. So you're saying don't use the colder thermostat?
180° should be fine, don't go colder. Stant should still be a good brand, unless others chime in stating it no longer is.
Brand quality on small parts seems to change quickly these days, I've been out of the 2nd gen truck game for a little bit now to keep up with the changes.

You need to get another 2nd gen. You know you miss it!
Well I just want to thank everyone for all the great advice and sharing their know-how from experience. I will be tackling this project as soon as my all my parts come in. I will have some free time since I'm on paternity leave. We just had a handsome lil boy a few hours ago. (One proud dad right here!) Thanks again everyone and I will post up my progress as I finish this project.
