Default No Overdrive

I have a 2002 Ram 1500 with a 46re trans. Just finished rebuilding it, and no overdrive. The original problem was the snap ring broke in the over drive section. I put all new clutch's and steels. I also had to new bearing and direct drive drum in the overdrive section as well. I notice will driving highway speeds going 60mph, its not shifting into overdrive. RPM's are between 2500 and 3000. If I turn overdrive off the rpms will change slightly. Before the rebuild I had all forward gears, OD included, just no reverse. Any ideas?

Did you replace the O/D solenoid? Might have gotten the wrong part. The pinouts on the connectors changed a couple times......

No I didn't change the solenoid. The only other parts I changed was pump and converter

Need to find out if the PCM is actually commanding O/D then. And if it isn't, why not..... Got a scanner?

swap out the solenoid then. i have the same problem, but for a different reason. i put a 98 trans, in a 2001 truck, and the sensors and solenoids are a bit different. i finally just ordered all the right parts last night, including a drain plug!

good luck with fixing it!

Did you meaure the OD unit shim? The thickness required may be different with new clutches. Measurment is pretty critical.

I did. I think I figured out the problem. The o-ring that goes around the overdrive piston is backwards, so the fluid is bleeding past it.
