Is it possible to cut a spring? And modify the diameter and or height?

I would think if done right you could cut to modify the height.

Don't use heat if you cut 'em.

it can be done yes. but ad to how much to cut off in order to get X amount of drop is a guessing game i think. trial and error because of the compression rate difference

Cutting coils is fine for a quick height adjustment but it's not the best way to do it and there are a few reasons why.

First, you only have the option of cutting a full coil at a time because of the way the coils fit in the cradles. They need to seat properly. This limits your increments to an inch or more per coil...which is fine unless you are looking for something more specific or fine tuned.

Second, some springs are designed with different rates at different parts of the coil. For instance, the coils towards the middle of the spring compress before the coils at the ends. If you're cutting off a coil on the end you're effectively increasing the rate, or softening the spring.

Third, once cut, there is no going back without replacing the spring.

As mentioned, if you try it, use a slow cutting method to reduce heat. I cut some coils off of a Corvette project and I got 1.25" drop from a single coil removal per side. I used a hack saw nice and slow and steady and it worked perfectly. Cutting wheels and torches will create a lot of heat and that will weaken the spring metal a lot.

So, yes, you can do it and the results aren't bad. Sometimes it's best to buy the proper spring for the height and rate you need, and then there are adjustable options which give you the ability to modify the height and rate on the fly as your needs change.

I'm a bit confused. I mean, any lift spring is going to look monsterous over the stock spring due to the way it compresses, and that added height is where you get your lift. With some exception due to spring rate, if the springs were the same size, there would be no added lift.
