Default i have o/d then i lose it after a bit

Well I was having shifting issues where it would hang in 2nd till I shifted it by hand. I replaced the 2 sensors that was suggested by everyone and seen on youtube. Also changed the filter and fluid. The truck shifted so smooth and was great for the first 30 miles. Then I lost o/d while sitting at a stop light. You can press the button and nothing happens. It used to do this before I replaced the sensors also. What do you guys think. The truck only has 62k on it and is a 98.

Actually, I think the light would turn on......

If that's the case, get rid of the check valve in the trans cooler up near the radiator. The rubber hose that goes to the lower fitting has the valve in it, right where it transitions from steel (coming from the trans) to rubber. Drill it out. Replace it with a piece of hose, and some clamps. Anything. Just get rid of it.

Its weird the light will just turn on and it has no o/d. Also while driving I've had it down shift ti drive for about 30 miles and then just shift back to o/d. That was on our way back from vacation pulling our pontoon. I will remove that check valve on my next day off. Heading to the river tomorrow with our new boat so I wont be using o/d anyways.

Remove the check valve BEFORE you tow anything again. What I suspect is happening is the trans is getting hot, and disabling overdrive..... next step should be trans temp light coming on..... if it works......

OD is off when the lite is on, you realize? And if that happens, the tranny is getting too hot. As others have stated, start with removing the check valve.

yep, remove that hose and drill the ball out with a 5/16ths drill bit, clean it out with some brakleen and blow it out with air and reinstall.

WHile I had that line off, I would blow out the trans cooler part of radiator also.

Did you have crap in the bottom of trans pan?
