Yep. Spray as much as you can OUT of the engine, wash the rest down the oil drain holes, with the oil pan off, it will run right out, and clean out other stuff on the way down. Probably wouldn't hurt to pull the intake, and clean that area as well. (and fix the plenum if you haven't already)
Please have some sort of drip tray under the engine while you do this......

BUT, if there's nothing wrong with it now, you can inspect the pickup tube/screen once you have the pan off, you could probably leave it alone....

i was told the same thing by my dad and old auto shop teacher. drain oil fill with Kerosene or Diesel and run engine for about a minute then drain Kerosene or Diesel, change filter add oil and drive around the block and then do another oil and filter change.

As for the valve seals, they are probably already dried up. Good chance to change 'em out here......
