Transmission extension housing

Default Transmission extension housing

I am putting on the extension housing on the transmission and it gets to one inch from the tranny and stops and will not go any further any suggestions

What year truck? Which trans? 2 or 4 wheel drive?

97 ram 1500 don't know what transmission but has the shift rod out of the tranny and slides into the housing sorry new to this mechanic work

What did you do to it?

That is probably the park rod, which goes in easiest from the front tinto the rear housing...

automatic 4x4 I did nothing to it just pulled it off by accident replacing the transfer case

Are you trying to put the housing back on by itself, or, is it still attached to the t-case?

By itself it will go on except for the last inch and an eigth I measured it I pulled it off it came off easy now I can't seem to put it back on worked five hours on it yesterday and still can't figure it out very frustrated

Make sure the dowel pins are going in straight, you may even need to hit them with some sandpaper or emery cloth if they have burrs on them. Try tapping it down with a hard rubber mallet without the bolts in.

Were are these dowel pins all that's sticking out is the shaft from the tyranny with splines on it and this housing is a box with gears in it that this shaft goes in in there is the female with the same spline pattern as the shaft I get it on there except for the last inch

Did you take off the O/D unit??? Might have to twist it a bit back and forth to get things to line up again.
