Modded my Throttle Body today =) Pics included!
Im just curious how old people are on here. Im all about performance, gas mileage, and towing more easily. But really who "Burns out" and "eats Z71s"? How old are we, gotta be 18-25 or maybe 45-50 going through a midlife crises. Still like the mod though.
No offense to the original poster at all but I'm leaning towards young and possibly an ex-ricer owner / tuner.
Haha its probably just the fact the mods or tweaks I have compliment eachother, I have the 180 Thermostat,Fixed plenum, one notch colder than stock 3923 Autolite Plugs, complete tune up with cap & rotor & wires,I have a glasspack & now the Throttle Body extensively worked on,
Fixing a leaking plenum gasket isn't a modification...it's a repair.
A complete tuneup including cap, rotor, and wires...is not a modification, it's preventative maintenance.
The T-stat change, different plugs, muffler, and TB work...are indeed modifications. However, the way they're described I get the feeling they bring him a large sense of accomplishment...which also denotes a younger age and limited experience.
That all being said, I think the TB modifications are the best thing put on that list. Not only is it something that can't be bought in an Autozone in the plastic chrome crap isle but it took thinking and skill and the desire to actually improve something mechanically.
Installation is straight forward, pull the old chain off and sprocket off, and put the new ones on, the Cloyes comes with instructions for 3 different timing sets I think, just set it to stock or factory, whatever it's listed as.
Absolute biggest thing is making sure nothing moves once the chain is off during the process.
Edit: You can just about slide the old chain/sprocket off, setup the new one to spec, and just about slide it on as one piece.

i don't really see anything that makes me want to polish my throttle body. it just reminds me i need to clean the lid on my air cleaner so the i can flip it upside down and allow my truck to breath more air
.
I'm currently not running an air cleaner, just the stock air hat & intake piping without an air cleaner (I'm avoiding dusty roads till I can afford a K&N), so maybe my results are more exagerated than others, but even so, the response alone was worth the 2.5 hours of modding I did, and Gtech showed a few hp increase at the wheels so its not all in my head.
What are you talkin' about bro? lol The Ram Speed Tweaks Tips & Tricks PDF says dyno proven 4-5hp gain with these plugs, Gtech said 5whp and my @ss dyno tends to agree that there was at least some gains. Plus idling in traffic on the 100 degree days we had in Wisconsin for 3 days straight in July I wouldn't change the 180 Thermostat for the world on those days & pulling the car trailer up & down hills!.
My tune up felt & performed a whole lot better than my stock champions did and also the stock champions in my sisters Truck when I did her Ram 360's tune up. I don't ping, I get 16.7mpg and I can eat Chevy Z-71 4x4's. Nothing wrong with this setup these plugs are stayin' in!. We'll see in winter time if I still think the 180 degree thermostat is a good idea or not on those 5-10 degree days, but for right now I rather enjoy not getting my face baked off when I open my hood to check my oil after running it on trips, definitely notice a difference in a lot less underhood heat with the 180. Maybe you guys have something else thats makes yours not run right with those plugs but my setup rocks, possibly bad batch?.

Also, you should go back to a factory Tstat, and factory heat range spark plugs. Colder plugs are used to prevent detonation. If your truck doesn't detonate at normal operating temperature, a cooler Tstat and spark plugs aren't helping you on a factory tune.
