[QUOTE=techningeer;2894447]I am just waiting for your post "HELP!!! My tranny gave me 168K and isn't taking me anywhere anymore!"... I am surprised you got 168K out of it... It has to have had major work on it...

Just wishing won't make it so, Sweetie. Just because you suck doesn't mean everyone else does. You wanna get personal, Sweetie, I can, too.

You can get all the bits you need to create your own Viper or Mega Viper, more or less, from PATC. Or you could take the easier but spendier way out and just order up a complete, twice dyno tested transmission from them.

Or get your stuff from any of the other places previously mentioned in this thread. They're all good.

Also, I have every single record of maintenance, Sweetie. It's all original. But thanks for the concern, Sweet Cheeks.

I would suspect that not many of us are the original owners of 2nd Gen Rams. And yes, most likely most of them have not been well maintained. But my son bought a 99 Ram in 99, new from dealer, and had two transmissions put in duwing the first year...before he let them have it back on lemon law issue. I know that is the anomole, but these transmissions have a reputation for being less than great, even if maintained. I bought a 99 Silverado new and drove it like I stole it for 200,000....and never had it slip or act up. Some are good, and some are not. But porper maintenace is important.

That said, most of us cannot help how the truck was treated int he past....it is what we do with it for the future....Had I not been talked into helping out a BIL, I would have never let my wife buy this truck (for me...heehee...)

And on the flip side, my father bought a '97 GMC whatever... I don't recall the model name because it's all debadged and shaved and girly as hell, but it's a half-ton pickup. Always maintained by the dealer, and at less than a thousand miles out of warranty the automatic transmission came untogether pretty dramatically.

Manufacturing tolerances suck sometimes.

They all make good 'uns and bad 'uns. Good maintenance helps, but cannot overcome bad workmanship! My Jag has a cast iron german made tranny. I almost swear that thing would hold up in a tank!
