transmission slipping please help!!!
i have a 1997 dodge ram 1500 4 wheel drive with the 318. sometimes when i get in it to drive in 2 wheel drive the tranny slips but then i can put it in 4 low and it will drive just fine? any ideas of what is wrong???
Need to run it thru the gears, to make sure everything is filled up. If it's slipping, a band adjustment might get you a bit more time, but, better start considering a rebuild. Generally run around 1000-1500 bucks.

The pump is the least likely problem. And rebuild? The price varies so much, expect to pay anywhere between $1200 to $2500.
The price is partially a funcion of where you are located. And partially based on what the market will bear. Want to do it right - and never have to worry about tranny issues? Get a mega viper from PATC. But that is not cheap.

You don't get a Mega Viper rebuild, the PATC Mega Viper is a full fledged replacement transmission.
Not cheap, about $3600 but can take whatever you can throw at it.
Only an option if you plan on keeping your truck for another 5 years.
