Question sport version 1500 sits up higher????

I test drove a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4 today and it was lower than my 2000 ram sport 1500 4x4.I couldnt figure out why when its the same truck.it seems as if it was at least 2 or more inches lower then my 2000 sport 1500 4x4.I asked the guy at the dealer and he told me since my truck is a sport it has taller tires and longer shocks thats why my truck sits higher is this true?i forgot to look at the tire size of the 02 i test drove at the used car dealer but like it say it was
noticeably lower than my sport version.or did someone lower the 02?

Taller tires will make some difference in overall height, in order for it to measure up to 2" difference. It would be the difference of a 33" tire to a 37" tire, relatively speaking. As far as longer shock, I'm raising the flag on that one. The weight of the vehicle rests on the coil and leaf springs, the shocks stabilize the vehicle going down the road and over bumps and such. Unless they were talking air shocks, shocks provide no lift at all. The 2002 is a third gen ram, I've not looked at the suspension on one however, I'm sure it's different from a second gen.

I have a 1998 Ram 1500 Sport and a 2004 Ram 1500 SLT and the Sport sits noticably higher than the 3rd gen. They have same size tires, so it has to be suspension. The top of the cabs look the same height though, but i think that is because the cab on the 3rd Gen is just bigger. Im no expert though lol

Sport package was pretty much just appearance.... no differences mechanically. The ride height difference was prolly tires.

Did the suspension change in '02 or '03?
