What do mean it could go either way? Did the 727 ever come with an hole/slot for the crank position sensor? I believe I'm looking at a transmission from the A518 family 46re/rh not sure if 44re/rh came with the same bolt pattern.

44, and, I think, even the 42R? will have the same bolt pattern......

Magnum engines started in 92 (318), and 93 (360), I don't really know if they had the CPS on them at that point or not..... I shot of the whole trans might help.

Looks a lot like a 46R? trans. Check the connector (white) that sits on top of the valve body just in front of the rear cooling line fitting. 3 pin is RH, 8 pin is RE. RH will NOT work in the 96 and up trucks. It offends the PCM.

That makes it an RH, which will NOT work on your 98.

Thanks for all the help. I knew it wouldn't work in the 98. It's a 4wd. I bought that truck for a parts truck for my 99. Which is also a 4wd. The guy I bought the 98 from, had gotten it thinking it would work, discovered it wouldn't work and then just decided to sell the truck along with the wrong tranny. I don't need it, so I was just trying to figure out what it was so I could sell it.

Ah, ok, that makes sense. if it works, its worth a couple hundred bucks anyway. Money in my pocket NEVER hurts my feelings.

Yeah that's what I thought. Guy said it was rebuilt. I can't use it so I figured I'd just use it to recoup some of the $400 I paid for the truck. I was just reading on some other site..that the difference between RH & RE. H is for Hydraulic and E is for Electronic. So if that is true wouldn't that make mine a RE transmission?
