Default Overhauling steering

Looking to completely overhaul my steering. My steering has always been sloppy but it recently has gotten out of control.

So a little research shows that I could basically replace it with 1 ton components or replace it with stock components and wait for them to all wear out again next year?

Whats my best option?

Doing that you may have issues getting the outer tie rod ends to fit. What you really need to do is start the truck and have someone get in the driver's seat and turn the wheel abruptly back and fourth about a half a turn each way continuously. While they do that, you get under the truck and watch each joint from the steering shaft, through the gearbox, both ends on the drag link, all inner and outer tie rod ends. Also be sure to check the track bar, the bushing on the axle and the joint connected to the LH frame rail. Worn ball joints can also contribute to slop in the front end. I see mud on your truck in your pic. If you treat yours like I treat mine, it wouldn't be a terrible idea to to an axle swap with some 1 ton axles if you're already in the mode to beef up compononts.

08.5 crossover steering. (direct bolt on.)

Red Head, or Borgeson steering box.

Borgeson steering shaft.

Rock solid Ram Steering fix.

Dodge off road steering box brace.

Your steering will be nice and tight.

Either that, or full hydraulic, if that's legal where you are.

Steering brace is something I gotta get. Borgeson gearbox is a freakin' tank as far as gearboxes go! While we're on the topic, does anyone know of a good heavy duty aftermarket power steering pump?

I do all kinds of stuff with my truck, from offroading to hauling way too much in the bed. I would just get a 2500 but I too emotionally attached to this one haha.

I wanna do an axle upgrade but I dont have the time right now. This is the only vehicle I have to drive right now. I understand the front axle is a simple swap but the rear requires some fabrication.

I recently got a new steering box, not a Borgeson or redhead im afraid though.

What exactly is the 8.5 crossover and where do i get one?

The 08.5 and up Rams use crossover steering, not the crappy Y-type steering on there now. You get less odd behavior from the cross-over steering, it is also much more durable.... Basically, all you are doing is ordering steering parts for an 08.5 and up dodge Ram. Can get 'em at any parts store. There is a thread on this swap somewhere around here.

Exactly how I feel. Everyone thought I was crazy for doing what I did to mine, but heck, maybe I am haha.
