Default V-10

So I guess it's gonna take some time now to get this V-10 transplant under way while I collect the necessary parts to make it happen.

In the mean time, while I have this beast on a cart, is there anything I can do to it short of a complete tear down and rebuild to get that torque rating up from 450ftlbs to maybe exceed 500? I'm not terribly familiar with the innards of a Dodge V-10 (ie. Valve train: full roller or not, factory rocker arm ratio, valve size etc.)

I've rebuilt and built up Chevy engines before, so I'm not totally clueless. I guess what I'm asking is where's the weak or restrictive points of this motor and what are the better ways of improving these restrictions? (Again, aside from complete teardown, boring out, installing high compression pistons, etc)

Delete the catalytic converter, put dual exhaust on it, tune the engine up, get a SCT, and put a 180* tstat on it.

You could put different cams on it, but I don't have any experience with cams.

Just curious, why do you want so much torque? I don't know if you can get 500 ft lbs torque unless you rebuild it...

the v10 doesnt have much aftermarket support for these trucks. i have heard that viper internals are swappable, which would mean you could use a viper camshaft.

Remember this is a V10 not a V8. They use different cams because they have 4 extra valves.

Since it's already at 450 ft/lbs, getting to 500 would only be an 11% increase which I figured was a reasonable goal (unlike mister "how much power do I need to do burnouts at 45+mph" lol) I want a bunch of power more-so for mudding which I do often in the summer and for the future of the truck. As it gets built bigger with larger tires the torque will become more and more necessary. Redneck is right about the lack of aftermarket parts available, which makes sense because as far as Chrysler engines go, the V-10 was relatively rare comparatively speaking. Nobody wants to spend the time and money engineering performance parts for something that there isn't a lot of. I can't even find a header-back exhaust system for it. I may actually have to go to a dealer just for the factory exhaust parts, that or fabricate my own. How about valve train? Does it have roller or flat tappet? Rocker ratio? Anything?

Viper parts don't work, the magnum v10 design is more like our V8s than the vipers.
Get your exhaust done (headers back), get a tuner (SCT from Hemifever or maybe a programmed pcm?), a cold air intake couldn't hurt. You might be able to find a cam that will work, just have to call around and ask.

Matt is right. Stuff for internals will be hard to find.. does SCT work with a v10?
