1998 dodge ram 1500 won't turn over
I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 5.9L auto trans with 134,000 miles on it. I drove 100 miles Sunday and got home. Didn't drive it yesterday, this morning I went out to take my daughter to school and it wouldn't start. Brand new battery, has spark, nuetral safety switch seems intact, distributor cap is dry and fine. The ignition switch seems to work since all of the lights and radio and all internal components work. When I turn the key past on the fire the engine it doesn't make a sound. No clicking or trying to turn over. It's just silent, I'm assuming its the starter. But I've never encountered this problem before. Any help would be greatly appreciated before I end up possibly paying for something I don't have to. Thanks
Well the horn relay isn't the same size fuse as the starter relay. However I swapped it out with the blower motor fuse and that didn't change anything. I also changed both 50 amp fuses for the battery and ignition run. All fuses were good and remain good. I'm starting to assume its wiring between the ignition and starter. I'm just not the most proficient with diagnosing those problems.
There are fuses, and there are relays. Have someone else turn the key to start, while you have your finger on the starter relay. It's in the PDC, the lid should tell you which one it is. See if you can feel the relay click.
Alright, I realize they aren't fuses. But they are in the same place and work as fuses, except they just relay power. I will get back to you on the clicking once I get another hand. So what will it tell me if it clicks or doesn't click?
