I haven't taken the truck for a test drive yet so I'm not sure what going on. I saw somewhere it could indicate low fluid? The CEL showed up while I was filling the pan. saw the light and I was only at half full. I really hope that that is the problem.
As I hope you know, check/fill the fluid in neutral. After you have it to what you think is full. Disconnect the negative battery cable, so the PCM can reset.

Yes sir I do. I'll head out shortly to see if it pops up again. I took a quick little power nap before finishing everything up.

Well, now it's just not shifting into 1st unless I manually shift it. I guess I'm going to have to buy a new solenoid and more atf.... great.

Before you drop the pan again, read through FSM trans section. See if there is something there that you missed.

I cannot remember what all you have done. Did you adjust bands? Too many tranny threads lately for me to keep up with!

Haha, no worries Gdstock. I adjusted the rear. I can't for the life of me get to the front one. I'll have to actually get the truck off the ground for that one. The truck is doing the exact same thing as when I first bought it, that why I assume it's the solenoid again.
Besides, when the truck did shift, it would shift just perfectly.

Took it for a est drive. Now it's just not shifting into 1st. The front band is for 1st and 2nd, right? So if second is fine, wouldn't be the band, would it? I'm seriously at my wits end with this transmission. It was driving just fined before I dropped the pan. Cleaned out the solenoid, got rid of the gunk off the magnet, new filter and fluid and now it's driving worse. I think I should be looking for a standard instead of a rebuild.

Front band= 1st and reverse. Did you remove the Gov body and clean it too? I'm afraid that once the Gov solenoid need's replace. 9 time's out 10, the tranny is not far behind. How bad was the gunk?

According to page 2173 in the '01 FSM Reverse is Low/Reverse (Rear) Band....

Sorry, I have some excuses, but in the end, I was simply wrong about that.

It's was pretty gunky. I did forget to clean it off last summer though. So how long all that gunk was there.. who knows. I did take the governor apart and cleaned it. wasn't really the worst, but there were some decently large shavings caught in the screen. I think it all comes down too, it's time for a new one. I guess I'm not really going to find a much better answer other than a transmission with weak and faulty parts.
I'll be searching the scrap yard this week for a tranny and hopefully ordering a rebuild kit at the same time.
