Ram restoration, looking for some direction :)
Okay so I had some good things happen and have some money and will be getting some good pay now and will be putting it towards my truck
. I want to restore it and make it a fun toy but still a daily driver. I am for sure getting a performance transmission, 4.10 gears, and keeping my 5.2 (so no 5.9 swap suggestions not enough time or know how and im happy with my 5.2) But I want to rebuild my 5.2 but not sure what parts I should throw in there? I will be using my truck for mudding now and then and off roading (nothing to extreme tho just a little.) Ill also be hauling a camper now and then its a small one, and hopefully blow the doors off some hondas and my buddys 5.3 vortec? Any help on what I can do to make this baby fun would be awesome! Thanks.

If you are going to yank the engine, and rebuild it anyway.... there is no difference between doing that to the 5.2, or a 5.9. Engines are pretty much identical. (aside from displacement) There is no replacement for displacement.
But, in general..... Bump compression a bit. 9.5-10:1, cam suitable for the RPM range you want your power in. (for mudding, I would guess mid to upper RPM range, which sucks for towing though..... you want bottom end for towing.) Intake that compliments cam. (roughly same RPM range) Headers, free flowing exhaust, and a tune...... Better heads.....

Okay so if I do decide to do this 5.9 swap what all do i need from the junk yard to do it? Can I also hire someone to do a swap for me? lol. Also I am getting the PATC transmission does the 5.9 still use the 46RE? Oh and if we are bringing out the crazy why not just a diesel swap? :P

Get the entire engine and intake and the PCM if you can get it. Try to get same year if possible (for PCM reasons).
You can hire someone, but check plenum before installation. Cost will vary. Hire someone you trust.
the 5.9 Swap wont be much harder than just rebuilding the 5.2. Either way you have to pull the motor. If you have the skills to pull that off don't bother with paying someone. on the plus side you can rebuild the 5.9 while still driving the truck. much less down time that way
