Default Is this normal?

I finally got time to drop the transmission pan on my 94. I was expecting a lot worse!

The oil was kinda brown, it's been a while lol, and a bit foul-smelling. But I didn't really find a lot of shavings in the pan....unless you guys tell me that's a lot of shavings??

Also, I used 6.5 quarts from just dropping the pan...is that normal?

That looks like a fair amount to me, even more floating around the pan...

How does the transmission perform?

And it usually makes me 6.5-7qts to refill after a pan drop...

Well the tranny was starting to act up right after warm up...I would loose overdrive (works fine the first 5-10 minutes) and the lower gear shifts would happen at higher speeds. I tfor a drive after the oil change but didn't go on the highway. The shifts were nice and smooth, even after it was warm. I will take it out tomorrow to see if I have overdrive. But so far it shifts way smoother.

That doesn't look bad at all, I have seen far worse on trannys that still ran another 50,000 miles.

The fluid smells bad even when it is new......

Thanx man...I didn't think it was all that bad for a truck with 160000 miles on it with very ''light'' maintenance done to the tranny. (Light being oil was changed only once )

And you're right...I smelled the new one for comparison and it does smell awful loll

BTW I used Mobil1 syntetic ATF +4....9$ a quart.

I looked at a few oils and they felt very liquid compared to the Mobil....

But hey...this is Canada, actually Quebec, where we are taxed 42% on our income and even when our dollar is equal to yours...we still pay 20% more than you Americans....for the same product....

Ah. I didn't pay attention to location! That certainly makes a difference.

I can get the Valvoline Full Synthetic for about $7 a quart...

Sneak into the country and start going to school. Obama will love you forever, and give you a card to stay.
