FWIW, deck the new heads when they arrive as well. I learned that lesson after having done a rebuild.

Make sure you get the late model gaskets. If your kit has cork or paper gaskets take it back and get one so both the front and back intake gaskets are rubber. You'll know what I'm talking about it when you see them.

Spark plug shields are useless and actually cause dirt to get into cylinders, make plugs rust, other bad stuff.

Also, merc really knows his stuff. If you can get a deal on a long block it would better.

Even better would be able to have your block decked but if it can't happen it can't happen.

Man I cant find any local engine builders =(. Nothing...... Got the heads coming from florida. Napa was double the price, and they buy from them.

I'm gonna keep looking so I can get the bottom done also. Know any locals Gary L ?

Brought the manifold up to a garage, they said hit the junkyard.....I'm on my own with the manifold, TB, and fuel rails.

Gotta get valve covers also, both rusted thru. Might as well get an oil pan also.

$$$$ pit......

I'll say it again, Damn Dang I am soooooooooooooooo glad I do not live back east anymore!!! I feel for all of you guys who have to deal with all that rust and stuff.

Out west there isn't any reason why you can't use the spark plug shields as we don't get all that crud into our engines. So when you say you can't run that stuff you need to state for rigs in the rust belt.

As far as a engine goes there are a lot of places to get one. You can order a long block thru Mopar but it is a little pricey. You can go onto Ebay and get a take out engine that would be complete and most of the places that do this are from the east coast area. Or there is remanufactured engines you can buy thru NAPA, O'Riley's, Auto Zone and other places like that. So while you're checking for prices and stuff I would call around as I am sure you can find one for under $1,500.

There used to be a machine shop out by the Rockford Speedway. If my older brother weren't a PITA to get ahold of I could ask him.

You may need to look up toward South Beloit or even Beloit to find someone.

If you want a used longblock, then you might try
(?). I can't remember the name, but it's east of 251, just north of Prarie Hill Road.
