Rust is only major in engine compartment. Bed is basically rust free. Bondo on driver rocker, but cab pan is fine. Most frame is good, rust by motor mounts. Truck ran strong......its just been sittin too long.

Quite honestly, pull the engine and tear it all the way down. It's better to pay once and cry once and you'll have the full story on everything.

BTW - I grew up in Roscoe and don't miss living in Northern Illinois

I dont know how to do that...also not setup for it. I'm not against a LB...maybe my buddy has room at his place to hold till I can rebuild it? Hes a chevy guy. Has everything, not sure how many motor stands though.

I cant have it down too long. My last cocncrete job should be tomorrow(back to the wifes tahoe....), but snow is coming.

Best place to look for engine or top end parts?

If you cant afford/have time for a full rebuild or lb then just get a new set of heads from clearwater odessa. Look on ebay and then contact them directly. Make sure you get NEW casting and not remaned heads. You dont want reman, these factory heads suck and will suck no matter what you do.

Just slap the new heads on, your truck will probably get a kick in the rear performance wise and it will get you through winter.

This is assuming you can get the old heads off, if you cant then well gotta look at othe options

I think the only thing you have to reuse from the old head is the rockers, they should be ok

off topic but what size tires do you have

edit: sorry i didnt see that you had actually got the things off.

Get a double roller timing chain ~50 bucks and the ebay plenum plate also about 50 bucks if i remember correctly
buy gaskets locally. New timing chain cover gasket and water pump why are you getting new fuel rails?

I can get the heads in 2 days from napa.....$565 shipped. 30% thicker castings. Prolly same as ones from ebay sellar.

What if $$$$ was not the issue. Where would you get an engine? I'm going to call around and get a price to change it out. My buddys garage only has 7' doors...wont fit.

BTW off topic are 265/75/16(which was stock on my build sheet, I bought it with 245's) I got the rims and tires for $200.

Fuel rails are rusty, maybe need a change? I'm gonna take the kegger to a local guy today.

Timing is now my issue, not $$$$. I'm gonna call my brother and see if he can find a sub for plowing.

Check around for a local builder. Being able to go to the place you got the motor from if there are problems is priceless.

Unless you can find a ready to drop in engine I think it would be better for you to new heads, plenum, timing chain and whatever else it needs. Bottom ends on these engines are typically good.

Heads should be good as long as they aren't remaned.

What's wrong with the kegger?

Once you have all the parts it could be back together and running in 1 day of work. Depending on unforeseen complications

That truck is in nice shape. I would not mess around with putting new heads on that motor, as the block should be decked and to do that it needs to come all apart top to bottom so a full rebuild would be in order. I have seen LB starting at $1200 hun and that is and will be your fastest way to get the truck back on the road and making you money. You only have a handfull of bolts left to pull that motor out.

I think thats my route Ham Bone(love the name).

The kegger has a TB bolt broke and both TB and Kegger is oxidized to heck, needs good cleaning. Mechanic can better check the fuel rails and injectors. Also pull my sensors, 1 was shot(broken). I had a thread going bout O2's and been having codes 0132(more before) after 2 new 02 sensors. Dont know how to link, but check it out. I need to check the harness. I'll be getting a new cat nonetheless.

Links to plenums and cats appreciated. I should be able to get everything else local. BTW what gasket kit? Any good ones that have everything block up? I know timing(I need to pull the pan?) and pan will be different. Oh spark plug shields? Imagine heads dont have them?

Thanks guys.
