Quick question! Regarding cleaning the EGR passage :

After take it out ,the egr and clean the intake hole , is okay for the carbon dust to go in? or needs to be vacuum out?

Also is it possible to check the egr valve? like to do a air presure test on it to make sure it holds or
how it suppose to be done?

with something like this:

Cat was replaced today for $260
Magnaflow 339037
http://www.magnaflow.com/02catalytic...iversal=339037
7 year warranty or 70k
The guy told me that my Cat was looking like it was overheated ...

Thanks

If you can get the crap out of the manifold, that would be best.......

If you apply vacuum directly to the valve, it should open. I think there is a 'bleed hole' though, so, unless you continually apply vacuum, it will shut again.

Ok, Finally i have passed emission today! what a relive !

Drove the truck about 4-5 miles to smog shop ,also was raining outside,so weather
was little cooler.

Now , with that said looks like problems did not end!
The guy at the smog said that the "NOx" is still in the high side and
is not really good and to have a look at to fix for the NOx to come down in numbers to "0"

Here are the results from all test:

First test: Failed (3-5-2014)

Sec. test: Failed (3-10-2014)

Size: 33.2 KB

Today's test : Pass (3-26-2014)

So regarding to the high NOx , what will be a other things to do to get those numbers down?
I Know that for 2 years i am not going to goback to smog ,but i want to make sure the truck runs
better!

Also the guy at the shop that did install the CAT he said that to watch for the cat ,regarding the color
because if the truck eats more gas ,and does not burn it right ,can damage the CAT.
And i am thinking in my head , normally high NOx can come from eating little more gas?!

How about from that Plenumm ? can that have something to do with it? i mean maybe the oil gets into intake
little and then goes into the air system and make the truck to be lazy?! as i fill it little...

Anyway, thank you so much for any advice! and thank you for the help provided till now!

Regards.

With over 200K miles on it, I would be tempted to do a compression test....

I know from last time it was between 140 to 160 psi .(2-3 years ago)

What will be the right way to do the compression test?

after hookup the tester, just turn engine over till gauge indicator ,stops?
do i need to press any pedal or other things?

Thank you.

Works better if you have the gas pedal on the floor, or, the throttle propped open. But, those numbers are actually quite good. Especially for that kind of mileage......

O i see, i know that about i think around 160k engine was rebuild, by my brother ,at the time the truck was in different state.

But will check again to see if they all the same, in the psi results. (i did the last psi reading ,and i remember that i never pushed the gas pedal down...)

So if they are good, is there anything else to check besides the plenum ?,

The o2 that i have put right now is new, less than 100 miles on it, you think if is not original part could have something to do by pushing more gas into the engine and then the burning may not be a complete one?...

Also 2 years ago , sparg plugs and the wires ,also cap and rotors where changed too...

Just trying to make sense in what to change next to get the NOx better...

Thanks for your advice friend,

Did you reset the PCM after changing the sensor? (not sure if that is absolutely necessary....)

Only other thing I could think of would be running a bit rich...... cat is supposed to take care of NOx though....
