I have used them in other engine builds. Just sink 'em so they are just barely below the surface of the block. Yeah, they do stick in there a ways, but, they will never, ever, rust out.

+1 - all I use are brass deep cup freeze plugs and they work great. Is the motor in the truck or out of it? I ask, as there are two plugs in back of the block that are only replaceable with the transmission off the motor. Also, when you remove the plugs from the sides of the block, take a few extra moments to dig out the silt and muck that accumulates around the cylinders. This will help engine cooling.

if the shop worked on the block double check it has the trans alinement pins. i think they are 1/2 inch. with out them you WILL wipe out the converter flex plate.

Are you going to replace the freeze plugs in the heads? If so, they are 1-1/4". You can find them in deep cup brass, but they are not always easy to find locally, at least in my area.

Did it fall out, or into the engine? It seems unlikely that it went into the head. If it went into the head, you better pull it and find the missing plug.
