Default 98 5.2L dodge ram will it work in a 97?

hello
i have a 1997 dodge ram 1500 4x4 ext cab slt larime, my friend has a 1998 ram 1500 4x4 that got totaled. his motor only has 90k on it and he offered it to me for 400.
my question is will it swap out easy or will i have to change alot of stuff?
my truck has 188k on the motor so if it will work 400 sounds real good.
my truck has the huges plenum plate fix so i want to reuse it if i can and his motor has metal fuel rails as oposed to my plastic ones. i would rather use the metal fuel rails.
thanks p.s. both trucks are 4x4 and automatic 46re both are 5.2L magnums

Swap the intake manifold, and sensors, and it will bolt right in, and hook right up.

The metal rails should work just fine. So far as I know, the only differences are the material they are made of, and the presence of the pressure test port. I seem to recall reading somewhere that the gender of the connector on the rail changed at some point though..... check that before swapping them.

what is the difference between the intake on the 98 dodge ram 5.2 and my97 dodge ram 5.2?
they look identical, my truck is mid year apr of 97 and it uses 1998 throttle pos sen instead of the 97.
i cant see any difference between the 2 intakes. im putting it in tomorrow and would like to leave the 98 intake on since it ran perfectly when we pulled it.
the only thing that was different was my 97 has plastic fuel rails and the fuel line hook up is different thanthe 98, so i will be using my fuel rails. other than that , they look the same to me.
am i missing something? if i have to change the intake i would rather do it while the motors are out instead of doing it in the truck

One vs. two coolant temp sensors. The 98 and up trucks only use one.

The difference between 97 and 98 is mostly sensors. The plugs can be all different styles. You can even use the intake manifold if you want, one probably has the plug.
