Mine usually shifts around 1800 to 2000 rpm's, normal driving. That can vary a bit, depending on TV cable adjustment, and of course low fluid level, or a whacked out torque converter.

^Yep you nailed right on it.Code P0740 Generic was found out to be a near broken transmission torque converter. I filled the transmission with about 1/3 a quart of oil and the tranny went back to normal. Then I went on the highway and hit 75mph for a test run and the tranny heated up so quick o/d turned off and the red "tran temp" light came on. After the test run the tranny went back to its old ways of not accelerating until 25mph and it felt really boggy. Eventually the tranny cooled and slowly went back to normal. For some reason the radiator is not cooling the tranny fluid and im dumb founded about why it isnt cooling. The tranny oil is almost watery and gray and smells burnt so im sure the damage is already done right? One of the things I noticed was the lower check valve line was extremely hot.

Is the check valve still there? If it is, that's a big part of your problem.

Yah its still there im going to remove it today after work. Im guessing im still gonna need a new trans rebuild though cause of the dirty watery oil.

In my 98, the tranny was rebuilt I'm 08, so my truck now has 180k, so I'm assuming that the rebuild has roughly 60-70k on it.
