Default Burning Oil part II

Figured I start my own thread on the issue..

Kool thanks for that! Would that clog the cat?

Why yes, yes it would. Fouls plugs, and trashes O2 sensors as well.

Ok I totally get that and it happened to me already (but I installed the plenum kit) both o2's and a new cat.

So with that said I'm burning oil again. NO leaks (I always check) FYI it's at 288k now. NO CEL, cat is ok, truck runs ok, just burning oil. So do you think with the rings on the way out (eventually) it's burning excess oil but not doing anything else damage wise? Oh and burning about 2qts per oil change
done @ 2500 mi intervals.

And thanks again to Ham Bone as well as Hey You for the info as always..

Do a dry/wet compression test. See what the numbers do. That will tell you if your rings are the issue.

Another problem area I have seen, is the PCV valve. The aftermarket valves are not always the correct flow rate, and, if they are on the high side, can suck oil right out of the valve covers, into the intake. Just pull the hose off the PCV valve, and see if there is any oil in it.

With that mileage though..... I wouldn't be surprised if it weren't time for new rings, at least.....

Do you get a puff of blue at startup?

Ok so rings HAVE to be worn and seals are going, I still wonder where the 2 qts go. I get that it's getting burned up but still want to know why the cat is ok then? Or maybe not asking is a better route at this point. I just don't want to sell it to someone who has no clue (like me) to have her die two weeks later. But I guess that is something that's very possible when it's a 98' w/ 288k...thanks Hey You!

You sure the cat isn't hollow?

Your compression test results indicate that the rings aren't that bad...... Valve seals are fairly easy to do, just time consuming/tedious.
