Default Testing for correct Governor pressure sensor

Please help!
I am hesitant about removing my transmission pan to save the $50.00 in fluid I spend every time it's done. As I understand it in mid-year 2000 Dodge changed the sensor to it's 4th generation. I have recently put a used transmission into my truck from a 1999 1500 ram, 318/5.2ltr. I would like to know if anyone has a simple way to test which generation governor pressure sensor is inside my 46RE transmission without dropping the pan? I have a digital voltmeter.

Not sure there is a way. I suspect you need to pull it, and check the numbers on the sensor.

I just got off the phone with the one who sold me the transmission. It came out of a 1999 1500 ram 46RE which has the 3rd generation governor pressure sensor. My truck and TCM are designed for the 4th generation sensor. So I strongly suspect I have found my no TCC lockup and no 3-4 shift problem. Now I just need to get my a** out there and make the swap. It couldn't be anything else.........I hope.

Thank you for the reply. I was hoping I didn't have to remove the pan but it looks like I have no choice now as the transmission did come out of a truck that had the 3rd generation sensor. It's a visual inspection once I drop the pan as the 3rd and 4th generation look nothing alike.

I have the 2000 electronics and harness mounted to the 1999 valve body. The brackets were different. I was tempted to use the entire 2000 valve body but the 99 valve body worked so well in 1st, 2nd and 3rd I didn't want to mess that up. Bands look well adjusted so my next step is to put the valve body back in.

I cannot find either accumulator springs. I thought I heard something drop and assumed it was the piston and springs but I cannot find the spring(s).

I found the missing spring. So I only had one installed.

Everything is back in place and I have overdrive and torque lockup now. What a relief!
I changed the harness and all four sensors in the valve body to fix this.

Don't suppose you have pics of the differences in the mounting for the sensors do you?

I can take a picture of what was in there which is the 3rd generation mount. I think it was a flat plate with a clip inside the governor housing holding the governor pressure sensor in place. The fourth generation Governor pressure sensor has an "L" shaped plate with a notch that secures the governor pressure sensor\trans. temp sensor.

I know a picture is worth a thousand words. I'll see what I can do later today.
