Yes when I fired each injector I had a fuel gauge on the rail and ALL dropped from 45 psi to 20 psi and when I put fuel down the TB it runs for a second but dies ( with the OEM ECM; did not try with the 97 ECM or 96 ECM I just bought) Thats why I'm thinking the 96 ECM is either not putting enough gas in (which would explain why the 97 ECM runs the truck rich) or the ignition timing is off somehow in both 96 ECMs (I will check the rotor and cap next; didn't check it at first since it runs with the 97 ECM)

Got a test light? You can use that to test for injector pulse.

actually do have one of those! How do I check the signal? What should I be seeing?

Put the alligator clip on the positive terminal of the battery. Stick the pointy end into the ground side of the electrical connector at the injector. (you can leave the injector hooked up as well.) Crank the engine. Test lite should flash.

alright ill try it in the morning. I decided to run the truck for about an hr tonight (with the 97 ECM at idle ) and it changed its mind on what wrong with my engine cause it gave me:

#12 - Battery Disconnect (I know this one was suppose to pop up)

#42 - Auto shutdown relay circuit: Open or short in the ASD relay wiring or connectors. (This one confuses me since its running and I just replaced the relay )

#11 - No Crank reference signal at PCM: No Distributor reference signal detected during engine cranking. Check the circuit between the distributor and PCM

Would #11 be possibly be that sensor the 97 ECM is more tolerant then the 96 ECM like @HeyYou mentioned in an earlier post? is that the CPS?

Have a look at the harness for the crank sensor, and cam sensor (in the dist.) It apparently isn't getting signal from either.... wonder if the harness got pinched when the intake was done??? (HAS the intake been done?)

no the intake hasnt been done to my knowledge but im the 3rd owner of the truck. I have a 97 parts truck with the same engine.. should I just switch my crank and cam sensors on the trucks and see if itll run on the 96? sensors should be the same correct?

using all my resources on this issue lol . and is it the same with the cam sensor?

Had a similar issue. Replaced my crank position sensor and all is well. Just my 2 cents.
