Default Temperature gauge accuracy or thermostat

Hi

I'm not getting as much heat as I used to Based on other threads I cleaned the core with CLR and bled the system which helped. The air coming out of the vents at low fan speed is about 155 and then drops to about 110 at high speed.

I noticed that my gauge doesn't read anywhere need what I'd expect with the 195 thermostat.

Attached is pic of the gauge at full operating temp with a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator outside temp is about 10.

Seems to me with a 195 thermostat the gauge should be around 200 but seems to show about 150. I'm thinking the thermostat is stuck open.

Yep, replace the thermostat. Even when it is subzero here, with nothing in front of the radiator, my engine will get up to temp while running down the road.

That is the exact location of my temp gauge also.... How long did you let the CLR sit in the core? Because my heat this year is pretty sad I've been meaning to do a flush but I always seen to find something else to do when it gets above 0

I'm in Florida and it's been cool here (not going to say cold for fear of backlash) and my truck is barely getting up to 140. Got a new thermostat and hose this week and going to put in this weekend.

I let the CLR sit in the heater core for about 1 hour and then flushed both ways. I did a 2nd application for about 10 minutes. Flushing did not cause any junk to come out.

Next step is to replace the thermostat. Now all I need is a warm day.

Thanks for the replies.

Be very careful when doing the stat to make sure the bolt holes are clean and not full of coolant. They don't drain into the engine so if they're full you'll tighten the bolt until it pulls the threads out...

Good tip.

@HeyYou, I hope it's not TOO much longer until we at least get a break in the cold. It's been in the teens/negatives around here and it's no good.
