Differential Noise; Need more additive?
#12
WHEW... The noise I'm hearing isn't a chatter but more of a what I would associate with the road and tires. Its "rar...rar....rar" and it more pronounced at low speeds and when coasting however I don't remember it being that loud before the change. However I wasn't paying attention either. BTW, "rar" is not the exact noise its making. Just the closest I could come up with on a whim.

According to Geno's Garage (usually a fair source for info) you need 4oz of friction modifier added to an SAE 80W-90 gear oil that meets API GL-5 spec.
Most reading on Trac-Lok suggests if you have chatter when turning, add more friction modifier.

I'm calling Lucas in the morning to see if the oil already had additive. If it does I might siphon the oil out and put new in.

I've ran lsd's with straight gear lube and no noises coming from it. Sounds like you have more issues than lube. Going in a straight line the lsd is all turning at the same rate and you shouldn't hear any noise from it. If anything you will hear something when turning. Sounds like a bad u joint or bearing.
