Could somebody confirm everything is where it should be before I cover everything up again?
- Cylinder 1 is at the top of the compression stroke with crankshaft timing mark at 12 o'clock.
- Installed cam gear so timing mark is at 6 o'clock.
- Turned crankshaft 360°, cam timing is at 12 o'clock & rotor points to 1
- Both valves on 1 & 6 are closed.

Sorry for all the questions. I'm just not up for doing this a 3rd time.

That should be correct. Probably wouldn't hurt to have fuel sync checked when you have it running again.

Allays idiot check it. You know the four strokes correct? Intake compression power and exhaust, Just make sure the valves are working along with the pistons. After you get it together check the fuel sync. #1 cylinder should be at tdc (compression) the distributor should look like this...

Everything is back together, I hit the key and it fired right up. It ran smooth for about 30 seconds then died. There were no signs of a miss or any hesitation.

I turned it over to TDC, checked the rotor and it was at 1.

Put things back together to check spark - NO SPARK

Bad Distributor/ Rotor or something worse?

FYI - I just changed the distributor cap/rotor, plugs, and wires when I did the timing chain.

check ground wire on the power steering pump, and also, double check the connector on the bottom of the coil.

Are you getting spark TO the distributor?

Does this come from the ignition coil?

Yeah, just hold the coil wire a bit above the distributor cap, so you can see the connector there, and have someone crank the engine. You should be able to see/hear the spark. (I would NOT recommend holding it with your fingers though, you may test spark by getting yourself a serious jolt. Don't ask me how I know this.)

Make sure you have the crank sensor plugged all the way in, 30 second vibration could have wiggled it loose, or just by coincidence the crank sensor just went bad.

He's said he lined up for no1 cyl TDC, not cyl 6.
TDC cyl 1: both dots up at 12 o'clock and dist rotor pointed at no 1 terminal. Both valves closed cyl 1, intake valve just closed.
TDC cyl 6: cam gear at 6 o'clock, crank gear at 12 o'clock, Dist rotor pointed at cyl 6 terminal, both valves closed cyl 6, intake valve just closed.
