Default Timing off

I'm posting this in the 2nd Gen because you guys seem to have more knowledge of the 5.9. I replaced the timing chain and gears on my 03 a few weeks back. Needless to say, I managed to be off a tooth when I put the new set back on. I didn't realize this until I was driving. Idle seemed smooth when I originally changed it so I didn't even thing about it.

I have torn the front of the engine off to fix this issue. Can I just find TDC on the crankshaft and rotate the camshaft to get the timing mark to line up? Am I going to have to reprogram the ECM?

Any help is much appreciated!

No programming needed, line up the marks and you're good.

Thanks guys... Since I was off a tooth I would think the camshaft was not turning in proper sequence with the crankshaft. Will the valve position be off as well? How should the valves be positioned at TDC?

With the gears set dot to dot, number SIX will be in firing position. (both valves closed.)

Since you are already close, just do the minor adjustment you need, and you should be golden.

Thanks. Just to make sure I follow, cylinder 1 should be all the way up on the compression stroke and both valves on #6 should be closed. At this point, the timing marks should line up.

Thanks for your help.

Correct. Dot on the cam gear at six o'clock, crank gear at 12 o'clock.

Thanks for the info. When I turn the camshaft to get the timing mark at 6 o'clock here is what I get for valve position...
Passenger Side (front to back) 1-uncompressed, 2-compressed, 3 thru 7 uncompressed, 8-compressed
Driver Side (front to back) 1 thru 6-uncompressed, 7-compressed, 8-uncompressed

Is this right?

Cylinder six, (third one back on the passenger side, should have both valves closed. If it does, you should be good. You could crank the engine around one crankshaft revolution, (so the cam AND crank gear dots are both as 12 O'clock) and verify that both valves on number 1, (drives side front) are closed. Also verify where the rotor for the distributor is pointing.
