Help!!! 1997 ram 2500 360 lack of power
Took me 30 seconds to find it. Not much useful info there, same suggestions as being mentioned here. lol
We bought this truck for it to be a father/son project to restore. Im just wondering if I should rebuild the 360,which was my initial thoughts or should I do a different swap? Pic's are coming soon as we are pulling the bed soon so I will post some before pic's.
Rebuild the 360. No point spending money on a smaller motor, and there isn't anything bigger that will bolt in. Anything else will require major fab work, and some 'creative' electronics to run the engine/trans.
Depending on how much you want to spend.... could always do a 408.

thats what Ive been looking at is a stroker from hughes. Unless it can be done cheaper elsewhere. But then don't you have to get your truck's PCM synced with a motor like that? Wonder what MPG they would get in a 2500 4x4 with 4.11's? Cant be much worse than now. And will the longevity be there with these motors? Sure would be fun tho.

408 will REQUIRE a custom tune. Hemifever, or Flyin' Ryan can handle that for you. (hemifever shows up around here once and a while, Ryan does not.)
The engine will be just as reliable as stock, provided it is properly built.
(not to mention maintained.....)
Not sure about fuel economy, might be a tad bit worse.... but, I don't think it will change over much..... Seriously, where do you go from 11 mpg.
Several companies make stroker kits. Most I think are cast cranks, might be able to find a forged kit, but, my guess is that would be quite a bit more money..... Is it necessary? Probably not...... suppose it depends on what you want to use the truck for if the expense is worth it or not.

RIght in front of it is a spot free southern bed and have the outer rockers. Need to get 2 doors, cab corners, inner rockers, and 2 fenders. By July hopefully it should be painted frame up. Then motor and tranny to follow which might be a winter project.
