Help!!! 1997 ram 2500 360 lack of power
I will def get floor mats too but thinking of a new carpet. Just found 2 seats and 2 doors all of which match my interior now, tailgate, and two fenders with inners, everything rust free. Im in heaven.. Maybe I can get the ball rolling on this body work so I can get to the engine before winter gets here.
I always hated working on the mechanicals on things that someone just spent big bucks on body work...... Makes life far to interesting..... An engine swap in a corvette turned in to a major ordeal, because it had JUST come from the bodyshop, for it's 5000 dollar paint job.... (and he was putting in a used engine????)

Gee thanks HeyYou.. You probably just jyned me. I know im going about this backwards but body parts are getting harder and harder to find so grabbing while I can and saving motor for winter project if I can wait that long.
Who's the Mopar Engine building genious on the forum? Was looking for some good setups for these 360's if i have decided not to go stroker and I want a little more than stock, little snappier. Low end. My thoughts were to get an extra block have it bored .030, get a piston that gives a little more comression than stock, a good lopey cam cuz I love hearing the cam at idle, and a set of heads? Good heads but not crazy expensive. WHat's some thoughts. This truck again is a project for me and my 17yr old son to do together, that neither one has done a restore, body or engine. I just want to get a little advice on some good matching of cams and heads, intakes for throttle body, and exuasts. The machinist that's doing the work is very good but does very very few dodges. So I think here is where my advice needs to come from.
Low end, and lumpy idle are mutually exclusive.
You can have one or the other, but, not both.
In the end, what do you want to DO with the truck? Tow/Haul? Cruise? Is it 4x4? Wanna off-road it?

truck wont see long trips for sure. Mostly cruising some off road and plowing snow.. 4x4 dana 60's with 4.11 gears. 3" body lift 2.5" suspension. 35's for tires. gotta have a lumpy cam Ill sacrifice some bottom end for that good sound. Had a 69 383 with a purple shaft 284 deg cam and wish I would of went a little bigger. Don't wanna go real radical just a good noticeable cam sound.

Hhhmmm..... big tires, and 4x4, don't really go well with a lumpy cam. You want bottom end grunt, not top end power..... Either that, or, you will need a higher stall converter... (in the neighborhood of 2400 RPM, or higher.... depending on cam...) It's gonna suck out of the hole.
Longer stroke, and slightly larger bore. (yeah, .030 overbore....) Good for low-end grunt. Piston has a longer moment-arm to apply force to the crank.
My take on it is, it's a truck, build it to do truck stuff with. THAT will put a smile on your face.
Stump-pulling torque can be lots of fun too. Run a dual exhaust, with some moderate mufflers, so you can that nice, throaty rumble.
