spartan remanufactured motors
Hey guys, I'm in a tight spot here, I know this a jeep related but that forum is kinda dead. So anyone with a jeep, I got a Cherokee 4.0l h.o. my daughter pulls into the driveway this thing is banging like 12 gremlins trying to get out, I pulled the oil pan and sure enough 4 out of 6 rods with 1/16 to 1/8 play in them. I guess oil wasn't in her vocabulary or just eluded her. I asked how long has it been sounding like that? she said for a while. So I have 2 weeks before she has to go back to school, ordered a reman from advanced which is Spartan reman company. Now has anyone had any luck with these motors? I have read thru a lot of depressing reviews I'm not really excited about this motor from them. But I do knw pretty much only the ones that had problems will write the most reviews. I will check and inspect motor even remove the head and take to machine shop to resurface it again, plus plastic gage the bearing to make sure of they are in spec
I will be keeping the original motor and do a full rebuild to my specs this way I know what is in the motor.

I know doodly about Spartan, but the overall gist of your post compels me to ask: If you're going to rebuild the original anyway, why not just stuff a running junkyard engine into the thing to keep it moving while you do the rebuild? You could save a lot of time and money that way.
Just a thot. Maybe not a good one, but it's all I've got.

unregistered I tried every junk yard around here and none have a decent motor they can sell to me, most have been stripped or just ran into the dirt, I cant rebuild a motor with machine work and parts in 10 days. There is only 2 machine shops with in 80 miles of my house. they are backed up for 3 to 4 weeks.
I can't find anyone that really has anything nice to say about them, not even advance auto employees.... (they say spend a bit more, and get something better.....)
Do you have time to rebuild the current motor? Probably end up costing about the same, but, you would KNOW what you had when you were done......
Either that, or go with a better quality long block.... (how much does chrysler/jeep want for one?)
Also, before doing the work yourself, better read the warranty...... some MUST be installed by a certified shop, else the warranty is void....... and since your daughter is going to be driving it a ways...... I would REALLY want something I felt good about in there.
Other alternative would be, just replace the jeep. Get her something else to drive.

Heyou, Chrysler wanted 3500.00 for motor only one here in town of course, also im not going to get another car to drive, It would have to be another jeep for her she loves that damn thing. if I don't get this done she will be driving my dodge and oh I just cringe on that idea .

Jasper seems to have a pretty good rep....... and good support as well. (and I have experience with them.....) I DID get a bad engine from them once, had a knock right at first start up. They sent me another motor, and paid labor to swap it again. That was nice.

No I didn't see the S and J engines I did see the gear heads but it was after hours and I emailed them I got the return email this afternoon. I had already ordered the engine at advanced, I'm hoping this motor will be good. I will be going over it real close even if I have to get a new crank kit what ever it takes. My daughter took my truck today for some errands while I was at work. ( I didn't know till later of course). I said to her the GMC is full of gas and I got "yeah but the GMC isn't lifted". The jeep is half the size of the dodge I pray to god she didn't hit anything.
