Exclamation Ticking sound i cannot locate

I recently purchased a 95 5.9L 1500, I have noticed a clicking noise that sounds like it is coming from the passenger side. Weird part is that I can only hear it when driving past parked cars, guardrails, or pretty much any solid object that would cause a reflection of the sound. I have not heard it at idle, Its making me slightly nervous. I just recently replaced front and rear brake assembly's so i dont believe that is the issue. Any suggestions as to what this could be would be greatly appreciated!

Mine does the same things. It's the tensioner pully. The spring tightening and loosing . It's old. Not bad but when they get old the spring clicks. Watch the pully while the motor is running you will see. Or the AC compressor clicking on and off

4X4 or 4X2? If it's a 4X4 it's most likely worn ujoints(wheel).

If it is speed sensitive: meaning it slows and speeds up depending on your vehicle speed, then yes, I agree it to be the u-joint.

If not, then you have some investigating to do. I have never heard my tensioner make any noise at all.

Question

Well, I started my truck this morning and upon inspecting under the hood, i could not hear the clicking noise i was previously describing, Which leads to me to believe that you both are correct about it being the u-joint. Is there a way that i could test this theory without having to pull apart my wheel assembly first?

See if they have any slop to them.

Jack up the front, turn the wheels, and then roll the tires back and forth a bit. Hear any noise?
