Default Headlight wiring nightmare!

Hey guys, Im really hoping you can help me out on this one. I have a 99 ram sport 1500 with a weird headlight issue the previous owner rigged up. It looks as though he rewired the headlights to use 2 bulbs instead of 1. Here are the lights I just pulled out..

http://m.summitracing.com/parts/grm-09-1214-pb

They look cool and all, but they suck performance wise!!! Anyways, I ordered a new set of headlights with the traditional one bulb hi/low setup and im currently looking at a wiring disaster. Im not sure how, but the fog lights were rigged to turn on with the high beams.. Which is kind of nice but now that ive taken out the old headlight assembly I have no lights at all that work besides the signal lights. I found the original wiring harness leading to the drivers side headlight that had a female plug in it with no wires on the ends. (idk if its a bypass or what!?) I tested the pins with a volt meter and I had power with high, and low beams, but nothing else. Also, the left signal light did not work with the "bypass" portion disconnected. I would GREATLY appreciate any help on the matter, as I am lost!!

Thanks.. And sorry for the long post

Can you find the orginial harness coming down beside fender from the switch? If so you can re wire to orinigal head lights pretty easily. I would just cut out his junk and start over from scratch. You might need two 9004 headlight harness.

The passenger side should have a harness somewhere too iirc

Look up a diagram for a 9004 plug. I can't remember which wire does what right now.

Re-read your post. Sounds like you have the orgnial plug and it has power on high and low. Which is correct. Should be able to re wire back to stock pretty easy.

Is the switch the 24 (think its 24) pin harness plugged in near the fuse box? When I followed the headlight wires yesterday thats where they led to.. And there was a smaller plug that came off the harness right next to the 24 pin plug that was not connected to anything.. It looked a lot like the passenger side plug, and neither of those had power going to them.

Another question I have is, from what ive read the Sport models normally have 2 lights per headlamp.. So why would wiring changes have been needed? And do you think its worth finding a harness to convert from 2 bulbs to one? Thanks for the help, im a bit lost when it comes to wiring

Most folks go the other way, one bulb to two.

Keep in mind, the switch usually provides ground, not power..... if the stock stuff is really chewed up, great opportunity to go to relay controlled headlights......

Unless I'm mistaken, the sport models came with a 2 bulb headlight, with separate bulbs for hi and lo beams. It's actually a fairly popular and effective upgrade

Thats what I have been reading too. But when I bought my truck it already had aftermarket lights installed with some wiring work done to it.. The new headlight assembly I got has a spot for one hi/lo bulb.. Should i try and find a 2 bulb assembly instead? I still feel like im looking at doing some wiring work either way.. I know I DO NOT want prohectors and I definitely plan on getting HIDs. What you guys think?

HeyYou, do you have any suggestions for relay headlights? I didnt know there was such a thing

HIDs without a projector are a no go, they do not properly light the area and blind oncoming drivers

Really? The lights I just pulled were projectors and they were absolutely horrible, totally unsafe! Im not sure if its different for other vehicles but I have HIDs in my mustang running stock headlights and they work great!

You can get the stock sport housings for under 100 bucks from AM-Autoparts.com, bulbs you can get at your parts store, along with the pigtails and sockets. Some wire, some relays, and you are down the road.

Only ground is for the fog light relay, Headlight switch has three positive feeds to it. B1,B2 and P. This is for a 96 other years may be different. ???

Most (if not all) of the ebay/china HID's are not quality stuff. Good true quality HID headlights focus the light down not at oncoming drivers like ebay crap. You may want to run a led bulb when you get a replacement housing. I am considering this also.
