Need help with 46re transmission
does it shift like this consistently or does it shift normal at times? I'm curious to see what you find cause I've done the same repairs on mine and it acts up at times like your describing. My RPM's don't get quite as high (but almost) and sometimes hang for a second before shifting. I asked earlier about the catalytic converter because I know mine are on the way out and sometimes seem to starve the engine at times more than others (sometimes they rattle and sometimes not also). Anyway, when I notice my engine starving sometimes, that's when the shifting seems to act funny.
Also I checked and don't have codes. My next step is to take it somewhere and have it scanned.
Curious too, if an exposed wire to the speed sensor would cause problems. It didn't look corroded by the time I discovered it and patched it. Would a bad/weak connection there show up in a normal scan or is that something that would require an advanced scan?

Need to start from the beginning. How was the transmission shifting before you made the repairs. And the sensors you replaced, output on the overdrive housing and the speed sensor from the tail housing? Did you Mopar sensors?

.To display ANY stored "P" or PROBLEM codes, you simply insert the ignition key, turn it full forward to the point be fore starter engagement and back to the off position 3x back to back without pausing.
ON the 3rd Roll leave it forward, and watch the OD display.....if the ECU has stored codes it will read them off and finish by displaying "dOnE" and return to the normally displayed Odometer readout.

oops........surprised nobody caught that and corrected Me for it
it MIGHT be possible the cats are causing the issue-- A buddy of mine had a 99 Dakota Sport with a rattle cat (lol)
It was the honey comb obviously but there was large chunks that would wedge into the outlet.
We banged it out with him pinning the throttle to a steady 2k, and Me swatting the belly and sides of the cat.
Anyway details clipped to get to the point, What seemed a bit odd to Me was the whole time the cat was plugging up, and after we got it all clear................he never threw P codes.

IF it is an OBDII system(afaik ALL Gen2 Rams are) then you Sir are incorrect. Unless of course there is something wrong with the OBD circuit itself.
The key dance has been around since the 80's. 1997 was the last year it will work on the second gen trucks. There is a way to test the dash display after that but it's not for OBD codes.

My truck is a 96..it has the manual odometer...so the only thing I could read is the light blinking a certain amount of times ..but like I said in past posts, it don't always shift at 3k, sometimes it will shift from 1st to second about 2k then 2nd to 3rd will be 3k no matter what..then sometimes if I'm not going fast enough in second when it goes into 3rd it will downshift back into 2nd for about 1 second then back into 3rd and then the rest is fine
