As i'm swapping my bed, I figured this would be the best time to clean up my frame a bit. I know POR15 is made to go over rusty metal. Nothing rusted through, just surface rust at worst. Ive hit the really scaly and flaky areas with my wire wheel. But a good portion of my frame look like the picture below. Would POR15 still stick to that?

 

As long as you go over both sides your fine.

Then POR15 will be your choice, for sure. Understand you want to use what you have.

 

What kind of life are you getting from it. I used it on my rear bumper and the thing started rusting again after about 3 years.

 

Did you do the inside of the bumper as well?

 

Yes. If you leave exposed metal, it will rust from that side.......

You want a rust converter/neutralizer. There are several products that will do this then prime and finish paint if that's what you where planning. You can get a sand blasting attachment for a pressure washer and take it down to bare metal! I have one of these and they work well. You can rent a pressure washer at any rental place.

 

I wish I could sandblast. But the cab has to stay on the truck. As of now, I don't have the space, nor time to pull it all apart.
