Does your truck look like a 2nd gen body style, like the red one in the picture above, or the 3rd gen trucks? 2002 was 2nd gen still for 3/4 and 1 ton trucks, and a crossover year for 1/2 tons. If yours is a 2nd gen dodge, then you will have the 46re. They are electronically controlled and came out in 96 because of obdII. The 94 and 95 trucks have the 46rh, which is hydraulically controlled, because of obdI
Not sure on the 2wd and 4wd. I think you have to swap the tailshaft housing, which takes some work, but don't quote me on that.

Double check the year of your truck. Assuming its the 01, you would indeed have a 46re. Yes the tail housing can be swapped but you have to verify the overdrive clutch black clearance and use the correct spacer. Also if I remember ccorrectly there is a bracket on the outside that may have to be tweaked to work but nothing major. Biggest thing is that clearance between the apply piston and clutches.

I realize that, my apologies. But it just so happens that my 3rd gen has the same trans as the 2nd gen. So really my question could be answered here. But I'll gladly take my inquiries to the appropriate forum if that'll make you feel better.
